You'll get by with a little help

Way back in 1977, when anything seemed possible and everything seemed achievable, musicians took hold of the rock business and shook it to life.

The reverberations of two songs released in that year by The Clash, Remote Control and Complete Control, are still resonating to this day in Wales. And this is how.

The charitable organisation, Community Music Wales (with a turnover of a million pounds), has taken these two song titles to heart, to provide a record label and touring circuit designed to give musicians from Wales the opportunities to develop and promote their work.

To quote Dave Sedley, west Wales regional co-ordinator: "We are there to support bands who are in their fledging careers. We use public money to record them, promote them and advise them. The money comes from the European Social Fund, the Lottery, the Arts Council and the National Assembly."

Remote Control is the organisation's singles label, releasing a CD by a different band every two months. "We're always on the lookout for talent to consider for release. The remit is very broad and eclectic," said Dave.

Two local bands who have singles released on this label, are Dogzuki and The Hot Puppies. Complete Control organises live gigs throughout Wales, locally this has happened in Haverfordwest, Narberth and Carmarthen. The name Complete Control gives "complete control to the bands, because they own everything.

It is a free ride for them, they get our professional expertise. When we identify someone who is very good, with a lot of potential, we will offer them the opportunity to be recorded, distributed, plugged, promoted and to get beyond the borders of Wales," continued Dave.

If you are a musician and you want to be heard outside Pembrokeshire, then why not consider signing on with www. completecontrolmusic.com They may be able to give you the extra exposure you need.
