Nelson delighted with three points

St Ishmaels 3 Carew 0

St Ishmaels' new joint manager, Bob Nelson was delighted with his team's performance over Carew on Saturday as they atoned for their midweek disappointment at the hands of Herbrandston.

"It was a good three points for us after Tuesday's disappointment," said Nelson proudly after Carew made enough chances in the second half to claw their way back into the game.

Carew were forced to play Gerald Hicks in goal as regular 'keeper Ian Kerrison was unavailable, but despite being the wrong side of 50, none of the goals were a fault of his own, in short, 'Tish were just too good in the first half.

They scored after five minutes when skillful winger John Roden chipped Hicks from 25 yards for a spectacular opening goal. Twenty five minutes later and they had increased their lead when Tim Roberts produced a cross of pin point accuracy for Steffan Hartevelt to head powerfully home.

Carew too had their chances but failed to take them and their first half was summed up when Tim Hicks missed a penalty by shooting over the bar.

The home side really hit top gear in the second half as they streched the visitors all over the park. They wrapped the game up mid-way through the half when Paul Palmer went past Hicks and cleanly struck the ball home, leaving Carew skipper Daryl John disappointed with the result: "We made enough chances in the second half to get ourselves back in it but after they scored their third we went down hill," he said.

"We just didn't come out of the blocks quick enough."
