Planning permission approved for extension

Pembrokeshire County Council yesterday granted planning permission for the extension of the LNG terminal at the Petroplus Tank Storage site at Waterston.

The extension will see the construction of an additional storage tank 85 metres in diameter and 50 metres in height, along with re-gasification equipment.

However, the tank will be located within an excavated area 13 metres deep and the removed materials will be used to create a landscaped berm to the south and west, to lessen the visual impact on the surrounding area.

The plan will also mean the temporary diverting of a 300 metre section of the Llanstadwell section of the Pembrokeshire coast path.

A number of conditions have been imposed on the proposal, including the creation of a woodland area to replace any lost wildlife habitats.

Implementation of the plans is also dependent on a full archeological survey being carried out on the effected area.

Approval also means Petroplus will be liable for the de-commissioning of the tank and equipment once they are no longer in use.
