Run-down buildings spoiling the area

DEAR EDITOR, - With reference to the controversy regarding listed buildings in the county, the colours of which are not approved of by Pembrokeshire County Council.

The impressive Victorian blue of West Wales Properties, Haverfordwest, has sadly had to be changed and is now a sedate magnolia, while the owner of the Lion Hotel, Pembroke, is apparently threatened with severe penalties for choosing to paint the listed building an unusual but tasteful plum colour, which stands out when viewed from the Mill Bridge as it blends in well with nearby buildings.

It would make more sense, instead, if the council had the authority to come down on owners of buildings that are in a terrible run-down state and spoil an area, like for example some that are situated near Pembroke Dock Market Hall, which is being restored to its former glory.

MISS MARY RICHARDS 6 Green Meadow Avenue, Pembroke.
