Spotlight on county's key business issues

MEMBERS of the economic overview and scrutiny committee, met last week at County Hall to discuss the draft paper, Review of Business Support in Pembrokeshire.

The review is the third of its kind to be produced by the committee, which aims to tackle key issues and constraints that affect the growth of the economy in Pembrokeshire. Issues that arose during the meeting included training needs, business support and reducing bureaucracy.

Liberal Democrat, Councillor Mary Megarry, agreed that bureaucracy put a lot of people off from applying for business-related grants.

She also emphasised the importance of not only providing business support and training but marketing courses in a way that encouraged business managers to enrol, showing it as a worthwhile investment.

The committee's findings, which came after 40 long hours of consideration, have been drafted in conjunction with the Welsh Development Agency. The draft will now be presented to the cabinet for final consideration.
