Llangwm pick up first point of season

Division Five (West) Llangwm 9 Aberaeron 9

Llangwm picked up a deserved first point of the season as they shared 18 points with visiting Aberaeron - and the Wasps might have pouched all three league points had Andrew Harries been able to land a last-gasp penalty.

But fly half Harries, who had already notched two drop goals and a penalty, shaved the wrong side of the post and Llangwm had to settle for a share of the spoils when their efforts deserved better.

Peter Walters, Aneurin Evans and Steve Wilcox did well in the set-pieces for Llangwm, while Hamish Nicholls and Wayne English did well in the linesout so that halves Gary Phillips (in for injured skipper Henry Thomas) and Harries called the early shots.

Andrew Harries gave the homesters the lead with a neat drop goal but the Mid Wales' side fought back with a penalty by fly half Eirian Evans to tie the scores at the half way mark. Another brace of penalties by Evans put Aberaeron in the driving seat but with Nick McFee, Greg McCann and Andrew Phillips covering well the Wasps clawed their way back and Harries landed a penalty, followed by another dropped goal, to tie matters up.

It set the stage for a grandstand Llangwm finish but they were denied as Harries was off target, but still deserved every credit for the way he had controlled play and kicked his other points!

Llangwm: JoJo Francis: Dai Thomas; William Beresford; Rob Neil; William Scale: Andrew Harries; Gary Phillips: Peter Walters; Aneurin Evans; Steve Wilcox: Hamish Nicholls; Wayne English: Greg McCann (James Lewis); Andrew Phillips; Nick McFee.
