It's snow joke for anniversary couple

AS most of us watched in wonder last month as the snow came tumbling down, for one Pembroke Dock couple there was a serious case of de-ja-vu.

Almost 50 years to the day since their wedding was nearly blighted by a heavy bout of snow, Laws Street sweethearts Kay and Watkin Cole never imagined that on the eve of their golden wedding anniversary it was all about to happen again.

But happen it did, and the couple were forced to take a 'snow-check' on their golden wedding celebrations.

"Fifty years ago I was an hour-and-a-half late for our wedding, because of the snow," Kay explained. "We just couldn't believe that 50 years later we were back in the same boat."

In a desperate bid to salvage the party, Kay and Watkin were forced to carry the party food back along the snowy streets of Pembroke Dock, because their car was stuck in the snow.

"The snow was tipping down and as we plodded along Watkin said, at this rate it's going to be a wake not a party," Kay laughed.

Thankfully two weeks later, after the snow had thawed, the golden couple happily celebrated their wedding anniversary among 70 family and friends.

Thanks to their generosity and kindness the snow-cursed couple will now be able to take a long overdue honeymoon.

"It would probably be very appropriate to go skiing, but knowing our luck there would be no snow. Anyway it's a bit of a sore point at the moment, snow and us just don't agree."
