Anyone for tennis?

THE annual Pembrokeshire County Tennis tournament was held recently at Haverfordwest Lawn Tennis Club.

The tournament, oganised by John McQuaker and now in its 55th year, was a great success.

In the men's singles final, Bruce Evans easily beat Peter John 6-1. 6-3. Evans had a brilliant tournament, also winning the mixed doubles with Louise Couceiro (beating John McQuaker and Susan Jones in the final) and reaching the final of the men's doubles (losing out to the number one seeds, Nigel Hearne and Richard Price).

As reported by Telegraph Sport two weeks ago, the ladies' singles was won by 12 year-old Natalie O'Brien.

Natalie is the youngest ever senior ladies' singles winner. The record-breaking Ysgol Bro Gwaun pupil, who lives in Panteg, didn't drop a single game in the final, beating unseeded Rebecca Morgan 6-0, 6-0.

The ladies' doubles was won by Lil Gully and Sandra Rowlands who beat the first seeds Susan Jones and Jennifer Scoble 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 in a titanic match lasting over two hours. The men's plate final saw Samuel MacNaghton beat Adrian Roberts while the ladies' plate was won by Laura Noott.
