Mother dies in car's sea plunge

A 34-YEAR-OLD woman died after her car plunged into the sea off Hobbs Point, Pembroke Dock, last Tuesday.

Sharon Thomas, a mother-of-three, was from 3A Owen Street, Pennar, Pembroke Dock.

Police and ambulance personnel arrived on the scene within minutes, but the depth of the water where the vehicle had come to rest, combined with strong currents, meant that an immediate rescue operation was considered too dangerous.

With the assistance of the Coastguard and the Fire Service, and their dive teams, the submerged white Vauxhall Astra estate car that contained Mrs Thomas' body was recovered, using air bags and a winch.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident. Police are continuing with enquiries which will subsequently lead to a coroner's investigation.
