Cardigan's 150th County Agricultural Show on Wednesday was an enormous success, as a bumper crowd passed through the gates.
Show officials were delighted. "It is especially pleasing that our 150th show has broken all attendance records, said show secretary Mrs Gill Jones, whose husband Sulwyn chairs the show committee. "We can't put a firm figure on it, but the gate was the best ever," she added.
The event was again staged at Briscwn Fields, under the patronage of mayor, Cllr Linda Grace. All schoolchildren under the age of 11 were given free admission in celebration of the anniversary.
Said Sulwyn Jones: "Entries were up in all sections and it was pleasing to see so many youngsters attending and competing.
"Our show day luncheon had been extended to enable us to invite past presidents and their partners.
"And a 150th anniversary plaque was issued to all exhibitors to mark the occasion." The Wilsons of Tregibby, Cardigan - Hefin (holsteins) and 18-year-old Arwyn (Jerseys) - dominated the dairy section, a sector now having to work hard against the ravages of TB after the impact of the foot and mouth crisis.
Hefin Wilson carried off another supreme dairy championship award after landing the supreme prizes at Stoneleigh and the Royal Welsh.
