Scope to go green on show field

'Recycle at the show!' - that's one of the messages Pembrokeshire County Council will be promoting at this year's County Show.

With the help of the show organisers, the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society, the council has arranged for recycling facilities to be provided for members of the public to use.

It is part of the authority's Waste Strategy to develop and enhance recycling services throughout the county.

The aim is to make it easier for people to recycle, whether they are at home or making a trip to the supermarket.

"It's a very exciting time in Pembrokeshire at the moment because plans to extend and improve recycling facilities in the county are well under way," said county councillor Brian Hall, cabinet member for transportation and environment.

"Actions speak louder than words. And this is why we have decided to collect recyclables at our stand rather than just spread the recycling message through words. After all, people need facilities in order to recycle."

Pembrokeshire County Council's Recycling Point will be located at Food Court B, opposite the music showcase.

The following materials can be recycled there:

newspapers and magazines, steel and aluminium cans and tins plastic bottles cardboard

A bottle bank will also be located on the showground to recycle any glass bottles or jars.

Said Cllr Hall: "As most people are aware, we are at the beginning of a very exciting journey. Not only are we planning to expand the kerbside collection of recyclables, but we are also planning to improve the recycling facilities that are located throughout the county."
