Streets ablaze with activity on Tenby carnival day

Wet and wild fun was the order of the day at Tenby Firemen's Carnival, where water battles in the streets delighted - and sometimes soaked - the crowds.

Entrants and spectators made the most of the designated 'water areas' along the route, with the town's retained firemen and Tenby Round Table enjoying their now-traditional hosepipe skirmish.

Carnival queen Katy Rossiter, with attendants Ella Brace and Bethan Jones, travelled in style on a vintage Swansea fire appliance, with carnival princess Merissa Turner, attended by Georgina Turner and Emmy Ravenscroft, on a float decked out with flowers. And there was also fire engine transport for the mayor, Councillor Sue Lane, with her three-year-old grandson Lewis as a mini-mayor in her civic party.

The Swansea East Carnival Display Band led the parade on its winding way from the railway station to Tudor Square, via South Parade, the Esplanade and St George's Street. Prizes were presented by the mayor.

During the day, it was 'open house' at Tenby Fire Station for fun events and a coffee morning. All the proceeds of these and the carnival will go to help the Firemen's Benevolent Fund.

Tenby Fire Station's Benevolent Fund chairman Kris Steele thanked sponsors Kiln Park and Tenby House Hotel and added: "We really had a cracking day from beginning to end."
