Market Street traders' hopes dashed by council

THE jubilation expressed by Haverfordwest's Top Town Traders at news that Market Street was to be reopened this coming New Year's Day proved short-lived last week.

Information on the county council's Road Watch web-site said work on the road would be completed on December 31st, some 15 months after the erection of five miles of scaffolding to support the crumbling Commerce House.

However, an authority spokesman described the inclusion of the date as an oversight, adding that the website had now been updated to March 15th, 2005, in line with the Road Traffic Order currently imposed.

"Pembrokeshire County Council will then apply for a six-month extension if necessary," the spokesman said.
