The ups and downs of the lower leagues

THIS coming weekend will determine the fate of promotion and relegation in the Pembrokeshire lower cricket leagues.

Starting in Division Two, where there's definitely going to be a tense finale in the last week of the campaign, Neyland need to beat visiting Haverfordwest seconds to claim the title.

However, Burton are hot on Neyland's heels and if they slip up then Burton could pinch the title if they defeat Llechryd at home.

At the other end of the table it's going to be just as tight. Haverfordwest seconds, Llechryd, Fishguard and Maenclochog, are all trying to avoid the dreaded drop. If Johnston travel to Cresselly seconds and win then they'll be crowned Division Three champs.

Currently in second place are Stackpole just nine points behind.

Stackpole will be hoping that Johnston slip-up and if they beat Camrose and Spittal they could hijack the title.

Any slip-ups by the top two could also see Hundleton sneak into second spot, but only if they win away at Narberth seconds.

Llangwm seconds are doomed for relegation while Cressely seconds, Manorbier, Narberth seconds and Burton seconds will all fight it out to avoid the drop.

Pembroke Dock look a good bet to win Division Four. Currently eleven points clear, they travel to close neighbours Stackpole who are in the drop zone.

It's probably going to be a close run thing between Lamphey seconds and Lawrenny seconds, who are both gunning for the vital second position.

Meanwhile Camrose andSpittal look down and out at the other end. While Stackpole seconds and Carew thirds will be trying hard to avoid relegation.

Hook seconds will be hoping to defeat Llanrhian seconds to secure the Division Five silverware.

Kilgetty should beat Johnston seconds at the Glebelands to claim the other promotion place.

Narberth thirds are definitely relegated, while both Dinas and Whitland thirds will fight for their lives to avoid that dreaded drop.

It's going to be tight at the top of Division Six. It's a three way race between Burton thirds, Saundersfoot seconds and Crymych seconds. Whoever can hold their nerve will win the title.

Good luck to all. Let's hope that the weather doesn't have a bearing on whatever happens this coming Saturday.
