Olympic joy for special Carmarthenshire athletes

A RECORD number of Carmarthenshire athletes will be going for gold at next year's Special Olympics summer games.

The county is celebrating its biggest ever contingent in the prestigious event.

Ninety-five athletes and coaches will join the 300-strong Welsh squad.

Team members are already training hard in a bid to bring medals and glory back home to Carmarthenshire.

They are being supported by the county council.

More than 3,500 athletes with learning disabilities from across the UK will take part in the games.

There will be competitions in 24 Olympic type sports including equestrian, sailing, power lifting and boccia.

The games are held every four years and Glasgow will host the largest sporting event in the UK next year.
