Traffic nightmare at Cartlett roundabout

Dear Editor, - I noted with some amusement, the letter from Ms Elliott, of Narberth, who regrets the loss of trade to retailers in Haverfordwest because she is unable to park here.

I am very surprised that you have not had umpteen letters on this subject. What bright spark of a council planner decided that the run-up to Christmas was an ideal time to decrease parking in the main car park by one third?

Parking is not the only disincentive to would-be shoppers. I am further amazed that no-one has expressed irritation via your pages, at the continual, daily gridlock on our new roads and roundabouts.

Anyone with a choice must surely avoid the Cartlett Road roundabout between 4pm and 5.30pm. It doesn't say much for the planners, as I'm sure no-one would dispute, that jams have become worse since the new traffic system has been introduced.

Since I moved to the Eastern side of Haverfordwest the town has changed beyond recognition. The improvements have added immeasurable value to the look and standing of the town.

My elderly mother joined me here six years ago and is happy here with only a few reservations. Her new GP made a comment about Haverfordwest being very hilly 'which can be difficult for elderly people'.

This is so and what makes it worse is the incomprehensible siting of both doctors' surgeries at the top of town.
