Five-star firm gets award

Haverfordwest Cheese Ltd - Dairy Crest Ltd in Crudgington, has received the British Safety Council's prestigious five star safety award following a reception at the Tower of London.

The hard pressed cheese manufacturer won the award after an intensive audit of its health and safety management system.

The internationally recognised process can help organisations reduce accidents and improve productivity by identifying their health and safety strengths and weaknesses.

Following one of the most comprehensive safety evaluations in the world, organisations are awarded star ratings - from one to five - to indicate the effectiveness of their safety programmes.

Action plans are also provided which aim to help companies reduce their insurance premiums, increase repeat business from customers and improve staff morale.

David Ballard, director general of the British Safety Council, says: "Good safety is good business and can save firms hundreds of thousands of pounds. In winning a five star award, Haverfordwest Cheese Ltd - Dairy Crest Ltd has shown real commitment to improving health and safety in the workplace."

"Integrating this into the overall management agenda is undoubtedly the key to improving health and safety standards in the workplace and preventing accidents. I hope it will continue to build on its achievements and that others will follow its good example," says Mr Ballard.
