Ambassador title for Ledwood

The UK's leading independent mechanical engineering company, Pembroke-based Ledwood Mechanical Engineering, has been named an Ambassador for Innovation, by the Welsh Development Agency.

One of only five companies in Wales to reach the standard set for the award, Ledwood was recognised for its innovative approach to technically- challenging projects and for its solid track record in developing innovative products.

Helping the company achieve ambassador status, Ledwood's marine surveillance system integrates two innovative concepts - a PC-based radar called IRIS Radar with Vision, and the Ledwood Low Motion Buoy.

Attracting interest from across the globe, the system can be used as both an enhancement to conventional port traffic systems and for offshore surveillance.

Joining over 200 VIP guests from both business and academia at the Welsh Development Agency's Celebration of Innovation awards dinner, Ledwood's managing director, Willie McLean said: "We are delighted to be recognised as an Ambassador for Innovation.

"At Ledwood we strive to be faster, safer, more reactive and more innovative than our competitors, and in a demanding industry like ours that means innovative thinking is a key part of our everyday business."
