Local produce on the menu

Pembrokeshire offers a wonderful variety of delicious produce for visitors and residents alike.

From home-cured meat to award-winning cheeses, fresh fish and seafood, hand-made preserves and, of course, the famous Pembrokeshire early potatoes.

Among the county's many prize-winning producers are Bethesda Fresh Farm Meats, based near Narberth. Their home cured bacon and gammon have impressed judges with their traditional style and delicious taste.

Meanwhile, Hughes Butchers in Fishguard, which has won many awards - especially for its traditional pork sausages, has expanded its successful retail and mail order business by opening the Preseli Gold Sausage Company to supply the wholesale trade.

Fresh locally-caught fish and seafood - including sea bass, sole, sewin, salmon, lobster, scallops and mussels - are available at many of the county's restaurants.

If you have a sweet tooth, why not try Mary's Farmhouse ice-creams, with mouth-watering specialities like Celtic Crunch - a combination of hazelnut, amaretto and chocolate.

Wine-lovers can visit Cwm Deri Vineyard at Martletwy, which produces its own wines, together with liqueurs and non-alcoholic drinks.

Meanwhile, soft drinks and spring water manufacturers Alderwicks of Haverfordwest, has a tropical range called FX drinks, with flavours such as apple, mango and banana. Look out for the Pembrokeshire Produce mark - it shows what you're eating or drinking has been made in the county.
