Prefab solution for housing shortage

Dear Editor, - Those readers of a certain age can remember the housing shortage immediately after the second world war. These difficulties were overcome by the building of thousands of prefabricated bungalows.

These were initially intended to last for only ten years but in the event some were still being lived in 50 years after construction.

I have read of the supposed concerns expressed by some of our esteemed councillors about the lack of rural housing but not one has mentioned the prefabs solution.

Perhaps the rural councillors are worried about the loss of agricultural land, but there are hundreds of acres of set aside which are not allowed to be cultivated.

Time to think of our young people, I am sure they would be delighted to have the opportunity of living in their own prefab.
