Irish setting no smoking example

DEAR EDITOR, - On New Year's Eve I, together with some friends decided to visit Southern Ireland to celebrate the arrival of the New Year. We visited the beautiful village of Kingarne, right in the middle of Ireland.

Obviously, top of our agenda was to visit a few public houses. When entering a pub, what hit me for six was the 'new law' regarding the No Smoking policy.

For once it was nice to be able to go for a drink and not be polluted by cigarette smoke.

The air inside the pub was crystal clear and your clothes did not smell horrible at the end of the evening. Smokers would huddle outside the pub to smoke and what was very noticeable was the fact that every smoker abided by this new No Smoking law.

As a smoker myself I had no problems popping in and out of the pub for a cigarette. Admittedly, I was astounded with the way the Irish people have accepted this new law! Wouldn't it be great to see this 'no smoking policy' introduced here?

Crystal clear air in a public house instead of the smoggy, smelly haze which exists in pubs here at the moment! So when are the Welsh Assembly and Central Government going to take a leaf off the Irish and implement this no smoking policy in public houses here?
