CALVES (39) A slightly reduced entry on the previous week saw a few more beef calves presented.

Trade continues to hold firm for the best quality beef calves, with dairy bulls selling to a top price of £16 and averaging just over £7.30.

Beef calves sold to a top price of £138 for a Limousin from Davies, Glancynin, St Clears with heifers selling to £71 for a Hereford from Morgan, Holloway Fawr, Penffordd.

LEADING PRICES - BULLS: £138 (Lim) from Davies, Glancynin, St. Clears; £100 (Sim) from Kedward & Co., Hafod, Llanboidy also £70 (Sim); £88 (BB) from Morris, Lower Coxhill, Narberth; £80 (Sim) from Woolley, Pencraig Isaf, Cwmbach also £70 (Sim).

HEIFERS: £71 (Her) from Morgan, Holloway Fawr, Penffordd; £54 (Sim) from Kedward & Co., Hafod, Llanboidy also £39 & £34; £40 (MRI) from Davies, Glancynin, St. Clears.

SHEEP SECTION: An increased entry of 262 approved hoggetts forward sold to an improved trade, as nationally there seems to be a reduction in numbers forward. Top price was 116.2p per kilo for 43 kilos from Evans, Cefnhernin, Dryslwyn with the overall market average at 108.43p per kilo. Top price per head was £62 for 67.5 kilo hoggs presented by Harris, Ffosddu Fach, Whitland with farm assured clipped lambs once again meeting the strongest demand.

Light Hoggetts to max. 108.2p averaged 106.24p Standard Hoggetts to max. 115.7p averaged 110.08p Medium Hoggetts to max. 116.2p averaged 106.38p Heavy Hoggetts to max. 108.1p averaged 104.52p Other Hoggetts to max. 94.9p averaged 92.93p

LEADING PRICES: 116.2p (43 kilos) from Evans, Cefnhernin, Dryslwyn also 115.70p (38 kilos); 115.1p (33 kilos) from Owen & Son, Castle Lloyd Farm, Pendine also 113.5p (37 kilos); 114.4p (36 kilos) from Evans, Cwmcyneifion, Blaenycoed Road; 112p (45 kilos) from John, Brixton, Laugharne.

Non Approved Hoggetts: A seasonally increased entry of 30 sold to a very good trade with a top price of £40 from Lockton, Dolau Isaf, Mynachlogddu and an overall average of £33.10 or 107.47p per kilo.

CULL EWES AND RAMS (376) A large entry forward saw the mid range ewes meeting a slightly more selective demand, although trade on strong black face ewes continues to hold firm. Top price was £59.50 for a Suffolk presented by Evans, Highways, Clarbeston Road who also sold others at £56.50. Rams sold to a top price of £49.50 from Salmon, Trepant, Morvil with heavy ewes averaging £38.67 and lighter types £23.30. Cull rams averaged £37.75.

FAT CATTLE: Sold as follows, 535 kilo Limousin heifer at 96.5p, 495 kilos Limousin heifers at 96.5p and 545 kilo Limousin heifer 94.5p all being presented by Price, Martin Hill East Farm, Templeton.
