Elonwy is new YFC president

The newly-elected president of Carmarthenshire Federation of Young Farmers Clubs is Elonwy Phillips, of Brynsiriol, Heol y Gogledd, Whitland.

She has succeeded Eiddwen Morgan, of Nantybwla, Henfwlch Road, Carmarthen.

Elonwy (pictured) lived for many years at Pontargothi and has a long history of her involvement with the movement joining her local club - the Vale of Towy YFC - at the age of 17.

During her competing days she excelled at public speaking participating in both English and Welsh at intermediate and senior level going on to win at Wales level on numerous occasions. She also won three chairs at the County YFC Eisteddfod for her literary work.

She became the first woman chairman of the County Federation and was also County Queen and Wales Eisteddfod committee chairman.

Two volumes of her work on the history of the YFC Movement in Wales have been published, in both English and Welsh and she has recently published a second volume recording the history of Llanegwad Parish.

Employed as a chartered librarian she is based at Carmarthen Library.

Elonwy is also a justice of the peace sitting on the Carmarthen bench and she is a member of the Gorsedd of Bards. She keeps in close contact with Pontargothi, where she is a deacon, secretary and organist at Siloam congregational chapel.

The new president-elect of the YFCs in Carmarthenshire is Hugh Richards, of Hengoed, Llanelli.
