Indoor Cricket League (Sponsored by Martin Davies Health Club): Neyland started their 2005 season with a bang as they beat both Narberth and Pembroke Dock in week two of matches at the Meads Sports Centre in Milford Haven.
But they were given something of a shock against the Dock as their powerful batting line-up was shot out for 88. They fought back to limit the opposition to 60 all out, though, and are again amongst the favourites for this season's title.
Neyland had already showed their ability to score runs quickly against a youthful Narberth side.
They sped to a massive 152 for two in their allotted ten overs. Paul Murray led the way with an impressive 43 not out, including five fours.
Support came from Andrew Miller (27), Patrick Hannon (25) and Greg Miller (27, including two sixes) who all reached 25 and retired before Murray returned late on to cause havoc against Ian Hughes, Richard Prout and talented teenagers Harry Allen, Tom Richards and Ben Quartermaine.
Neyland then showed their ability to put pressure on the opposition with some accurate bowling and tight fielding.
Richard Adams, Richards, Allen and Prout were all dismissed quickly before Hughes steadied things down with a gritty 32, ably supported by Quartermain.
Both were run out in a desperate quest for runs that saw them all out for 79 with two overs unused.
If Neyland went into their match against the Dock expecting another run glut they were soon brought back to earth with a bump.
Patrick Hannon was run out for a duck, with Greg and Paul Miller falling for just seven runs apiece.
But Shaun Hannon (13), Paul Murray (17) and Jay Dunsford (27) used up the overs well as Dock skipper John Davies bowled ten dot balls to return impressive figures of 0-6 in two overs. Neyland finished up on a less than impressive 88 all out.
But the Dock were soon in trouble. Paul Kingdom, Jason White and Jamie Hiatt were dismissed in quick succession.
Davies and Laugharne put in a little counter-attack but Paul Miller and Patrick Hannon bowled so economically that they were always struggling with the run-rate and although Laugharne contributed 18 runs they were shot out in 7.3 overs for 60.
Narberth rounded things off with a good win over the Dock, despite a hat-trick from Laugharne.
The Dock bowler removed Harry Allen and Tom Bevan in successive deliveries at the end of his first over and then came back later to trap Ian Hughes for a top score of 20.
Laugharne finished up with impressive figures of three for 12.
Tom Richards (12), Richard Prout (20) and Ben Quartermaine (16 not out) eventually helped Narberth reach 94 for 5.
The Dock again struggled at the start of their reply. Richard Prout and Harry Allen bowled well, although Kingdom and Hiatt managed 11 apiece before John Davies showed his worth to the side with 36 runs before he became one of Richards' two victims late on. Narberth won by 22 runs.
