Trust must put things right

DEAR EDITOR, - I applaud the Withybush Hospital consultants, who are unhappy with the loss of beds, services and appalling lack of respect shown to a colleague, at our local hospital.

I remember when at the County Hospital we only had two surgical consultants, one registrar, two medical consultants and a few house doctors.

All other services were covered by part-time consultants visiting once a month or so. It was those past consultants, who fought for a new hospital to improve health services in our county.

Withybush Hospital opened in 1978 and we have seen a huge increase in all consultancies and services at our local hospital, all wonderfully supported by dedicated nursing staff and the full range of skilled support services, which has seen a massive increase in the number of local people receiving first class treatment.

I urge the Pembrokeshire and Derwen Trust to put things right.

Let's have more beds, with our consultants working to a near full capacity and fully utilising their skills. Let's have our nurses and all the support service staff treated with respect.

The more content and happier the workforce, the better the service provided, which in turn makes time spent at Withybush Hospital comforting for local patients.
