THE owners of a 27-metre workboat are battling to salvage her from the seabed at Fishguard Harbour.
The tug Intrepid B sank at 7.30am on Monday, following stormy weather over the weekend. The owner of the Intrepid B, Alan Little, of D. Little Engineering Company, Haverfordwest, said: "She could have landed on a mooring which may have put a hole in her side."
Water was pumped from the workboat in an attempt to refloat her in the outer harbour. A county council spokesman said: "Divers went down to inspect the boat yesterday (Tuesday) and there was also a meeting involving the vessel's owners and their insurers.
"They are now going to appoint a salvage master and the salvage operation is likely to cover several days.
"A little diesel oil has come ashore at Lower Town, but diesel evaporates very quickly."
Yvonne Fox (Jemima Nicholas), watched the boat sink from her mother's house at Penyraber, Fishguard, overlooking the harbour.
"I watched the boat go down and couldn't believe the size of the waves. They are the biggest waves I have seen in the 41 years I have lived here," she said.
