Sutton stars as Fishguard B stroll

Indoor Cricket League (sponsored by Martin James Health Club) - week seven

Rob Sutton showed what a useful asset he is to Fishguard Cricket Club, leading their Indoor League B team to convincing wins over Pembroke Dock and Pembroke.

Fishguard moved into third spot in the table to finish their short season in style.

The matches at the Meads Sports Centre, Milford Haven were as one-sided as they have ever been as Fishguard B walloped Pembroke Dock by a massive 90 runs and slammed Pembroke by 98.

Pembroke then reduced the Dock to 11 all out, a new Indoor League low, and reached their target in two overs!

Sutton (26), Alan Millichip (33), Rory Hall (25) and Jonathan George (14) were all not out and Nigel Morgan supported with 21 before he was run out to give Pembroke Dock their only success as Fishguard B reached a very healthy 125 for 2 wickets.

It was always going to be too big a score for the Dock. Opener John Comani dislocated his kneecap in a tumble that necessitated hospital treatment, Nigel Morgan claimed 2 for 4 and Rory Hall 2 for 3 as only Steve Nash achieved double figures for the Dock in their 35 all out.

Fishguard B also batted first in their second match, against Pembroke, and rattled up 117 all out in 8.3 overs.

Barry Evans looked the pick of the bowlers in taking 2 for 15, including the wicket of Sutton for a gritty 43 (including ten threes and a four) after he had retired on 25 but returned when Fishguard lost wickets.

Nigel Morgan also supported with 29 (seven threes and two fours) and Millichip managed 12 runs as they ran out of batsmen with nine balls still left from their allotted 10 overs.

Sandwiched in between was the local derby between Pembroke and Pembroke Dock, surely the fastest finish in indoor cricket as the whole gale lasted only 4.1 overs!

Already without the injured John Comani, the Dock lost John Shepherd, Jason Hyett and Steve Nash for ducks.'Mr Extras' was their top scorer with 5 runs (all wides) as they were dismissed for 11 runs.

It left Barry Evans and Lee Butler with the simple job of reaching 12 without loss in exactly two overs as Evans sealed victory with a neat straight four that was right out of the coaching manual.

Alan Hansen was the umpire, with Neyland all-rounder Greg Miller doing a good job of officiating at square leg.

The matches were organised, as usual, by Wendy Bradshaw and much of the scoring was undertaken by Fishguard's Nigel Delaney.
