Harriers veteran ladies finish season in style

Athletics: Pembrokeshire Harriers have had a successful conclusion to the 2004 season after a close fought battle with other local clubs.

The ladies team managed to regain the Interclub Three Counties Texaco Shield which they previously held in 2003.

Helen Mcnamara also managed to win the Vet Ladies prize, with a fine series of runs.

The competition was established to encorouage runners to compete in a number of key races organized by local clubs which take place throughout the year, the races cover such diverse distances as CwrtNewydd four mile road race, Sarn Helen 16.5mile multi terrain, Dale half marathon, and Ras-Y-Mast fell race, to name but a few.

Good fields turned out for all the races whatever the conditions, and a great atmosphere was enjoyed by everyone.

A special mention should be made about Helen who not only won the Veteran Ladies prize, but also completed three half marathons (Dale, Lake Vrynwy, and Cardiff) in fourweeks, but also went on to run the Swansea 10k within a couple of hours of finishing the Cardiff half marathon.

The whole club have put in fine performances throughout the year travelling many miles to compete in races, and have several members currently hard at work training for the forthcoming 25th London Marathon, they are: Martin Dyde, a London Marathon veteran, Jill Colman, Mike Lawrence and Jan Bell training for their first London, and Lorraine Dyde, Jan Younger, and Eddie Bateman who have all run London before.

Anyone interested in coming along to one of the training sessions can ring Jan Younger on 01646 601203 for details.
