£5m entertainment park on horizon

A MULTI-MILLION pound entertainment park at one of the gateways to Pembrokeshire is being proposed by two of the leading names in the fairground industry.

Vernon Studt and Dean Deakin will be running Groveland Adventure Park, near St Clears, this season.

And if they go ahead and buy the attraction, then installing one of Britain's biggest rollercoasters will be a priority as part of an investment of more than £5 million in the next few years.

The businessmen and owner John Williams have agreed a sale on the 47-acre park - but will only make a final decision on their purchase after the outcome later this year of a planning application to site 270 caravans adjacent.

"Having a caravan park next to Groveland would be a marvellous attraction, and would ensure we had a captive audience, as well as being able to offer a complete holiday package," said Mr Studt, of Swansea-based Studt's Funfairs.

"We have a year's lease on Groveland, and after this will decide whether or not to go ahead and buy. We really want this project to succeed and will give it our best shot."

Mr Deakin - from D. Deakin and Sons, Gloucester - and Mr Studt are working to get the park open at Easter and will be bringing in a range of fairground rides to complement the existing attractions, which include a go-kart track, laser shoot, children's rides and water boats.

Admission will be free, with visitors buying 'pay per ride' tickets.
