The city of St Davids' youngest-ever mayor, Paul Taylor, has denied that his shock resignation was prompted by an affair with a local woman.
At Monday's City Council meeting, it emerged that a couple who run a holiday letting agency, with properties in St Davids, had complained to the council about Mr Taylor's conduct on Sunday, February 28th.
A letter and statement from them was given to each councillor at Monday's meeting.
The statement said: "It had been brought to our attention that Mr Taylor had been regularly entering one of our properties, without permission, in the company of a woman.
"We would like to thank the council for acting so promptly regarding our complaint about Paul Taylor's actions.
"We both feel betrayed by Paul, and that his actions have caused the council and the community nothing but harm and bad feeling."
The statement added: "Mr Taylor was questioned by police, the locks were changed and the matter was dealt with.
"We brought Mr Taylor's actions to the attention of the council, as we felt it was inappropriate behaviour for a councillor, let alone a Mayor."
However, two councillors felt that it was unfortunate the letter had been brought up at the meeting.
Deputy Mayor John George has now taken over as Mayor.
Police Inspector Russell Smith told the Western Telegraph: "I can verify that we were called to the Coach House, Quickwell Road, St Davids, after a report of unauthorised entry.
"On investigating the matter, we concluded that it was a civil dispute and therefore no criminal offence, and no further action was taken."
Mr Taylor - a milkman and lifeboatman married to Sue, who is bank manager - resigned just before St David's Day, one of the biggest calendar events for the city. Their house is now up for sale.
In an interview last Thursday, he denied having any domestic problems, adding: "My wife is very proud of what I have achieved as mayor and she gave me enormous support."
Paul said he made the decision to resign weeks ago and had become 'fed up with feeling like he was owned by the electorate'.
But yesterday, Tuesday, he said: "I wasn't having an affair, but people will never understand that. St Davids is a vicious city.
"I admit that I have done wrong. I have apologised to all parties involved and the apologies have been accepted. As far as I'm concerned the matter is done with.
"I can't understand why it has all been dragged up again when it happened months ago.
"I'm leaving St Davids for a new life. I have moved on."
