Rugby Division One Narberth 20 UWIC 8
Narberth scored 20 points in the second half to seal a hard-fought win against the students of UWIC, who had to play without hooker Rhys James for all but nine minutes of the tussle after he had been dismissed by the referee for alleged violent conduct.
Yet it still took the Otters 50 minutes to wear down the students, who were three points ahead after a tight first period but had to play into the elements after the break.
In a disappointing first quarter for Narberth they had No 8 Lewis Wood sin-binned early on and conceded an easy penalty to centre Phil Dolman after James had made his undignified exit.
The students were further reduced to 13 men when full back Roger Davies was given a 10-minute rest but Narberth were still unable to break down their obdurate defence until the 52nd minute, when a fierce drive from a lineout in the left corner saw prop Barry Davies emerge triumphant with the ball.
Narberth added a second try within three minutes as Adrian Killa tried to get his backs into action and set partner Gareth James on a run which saw Wood combine with second row Jason Jennings, the busy second row diving over for James to add the extra points.
Gareth James completed a purple patch for the Otters with their third try in nine minutes as Jennings, skipper Alan Phillips and Killa created the platform - and winger Nick Jones completed their scoring with a penalty after 70 minutes.
Roger Jones managed to score a late consolation try for the students which went unconverted, but there was no way back for UWIC as Narberth gained revenge for an earlier 25-21 defeat by these opponents in Cardiff.
