CALVES: A reduced entry forward sold to a much improved trade with bulls selling to a top price of £141 for a Simmental presented by Woolley, Pencraig Isaf, Cwmbach with heifers selling to £82 for a Simmental presented by Llewellin, Cotland Farm, Llawhaden. Friesian bulls sold from £7 to £19.

LEADING PRICES:

BULLS: £141 (Sim) from Woolley, Pencraig Isaf, Cwmbach also £129 & £73 (Sim); £116 (BB) from Morris, Blaenffyhonnau, Llangynin; £76 (Sim) from Llewellin, Cotland Farm, Llawhaden.

HEIFERS: £82 (Sim) from Llewellin, Cotland Farm, Llawhaden also £42 (Sim); £80 (Lim) from Morgan, Holloway Fawr, Penffordd also £56 (Her); £49 (Lim) from Thomas & Son, Pantycoed, Penybont.

SHEEP SECTION:

An increased entry of 335 hoggetts sold to an improved demand with the overall average at 107.63p per kilo and a top price of 113.40p per kilo for 43 kilo hoggetts presented by Hall, Brynbank, North Road. Mid-weight hoggs were keenly contested with several lots making in excess of 110p per kilo.

QUOTATIONS:

Light Hoggetts to max. 94.44p per kilo averaged 94.44p Standard Hoggetts to max. 112.9p per kilo averaged 107.06p Medium Hoggetts to max. 113.4p per kilo averaged 107.96p Heavy Hoggetts to max. 111.8p per kilo averaged 104.07p Other Hoggetts to max. 96.29p per kilo averaged 86.51p

Non approved hoggetts sold to a top price of £43 and averaged £35.

CULL EWES AND RAMS:

An entry of 384 sold to a similar trade to the previous week.

Demand is down on previous years with the plain ewes meeting a selective trade. Top price was £56.50 from Thomas, Carreg Llys, White Mill with heavy ewes averaging £41 and lighter types £20.50. Cull rams sold from £4 to £26.50.
