LNG 'has to be remote'

A LLANSTADWELL woman has expressed concerns about local LNG developments after visiting a similar site in Oman.

Joy Jones and her son stumbled across the Oman LNG plant, built in 2003. The nearest settlement was 16km away, in Sur.

When the pair questioned a UK representative at the plant about the location they were told: "It's dangerous stuff. It has to be remote."

This prompted Joy to question whether the Pembrokeshire LNG processers will be safe. "The fact that I, and scores of others, live one mile from the Waterston plant suggests the complete opposite," she said.

The pair saw chimneys belching 'fiery plumes' and Joy fears that these emissions, combined with those of the power stations and possible cooling towers, will greatly increase air pollution in the Haven towns.

"This LNG should never be as close to habitation as it is here," said Joy.
