Euro MP backs fight against Tetramast

CAMPAIGNERS against the Tetramast plan for Haverfordwest police station have the support of Euro MP Jill Evans.

She organised a seminar to bring Welsh protest groups together and met representatives from Haverfordwest last week.

Ms Evans expressed concern over the effects of the mast and the 'overall lack of democracy' involved.

Questions were raised at European Commission level when the contract was given to O2 without going to tender.

"The UK Government was found to be in the wrong over this, but nothing was done," she said.

"We all want the police to have good communications - it is in our best interests," she said.

"But the police are as concerned as we are."

Ms Evans has been contacted by so many groups, she organised a seminar in Llanidloes last Wednesday to bring them together.

Speakers included various experts and a representative from the Police Federation.

Joan Thomas, of Haverfordwest, was at the seminar and felt it was a vital step in bringing individual groups together to make the safety of the Tetramast a national issue.

Haverfordwest schools representatives and residents met last Wednesday to work on plans for a demonstration after school on Friday, April 15th.

A meeting to gather support for the demonstration will take place at Haverfordwest Cricket Club at 7pm on Tuesday, April 12th.

Town councillor Cherie Harvey said: "We are not going to let go on this issue."
