County councillor dies

THE leader of Pembrokeshire County Council, Councillor John Davies, has paid tribute to long-serving county councillor William (Billy) Davies, of Templeton, (pictured), who has died.

Expressing his deep sense of sadness on the passing of a true and genuine friend, the leader said: "Bill Davies was at all times dependable in judgement and always loyal to commonsense.

"His concern towards others was immeasurable.

"His words of wisdom and solid support towards his county and electorate will be sorely missed by elected members and officers alike. He was from the very top drawer of county councillors.''

Cllr Davies said the sympathy of the county council was extended to Mrs Davies and the family in their sudden loss.

Cllr Davies, aged 74, of Melrose, Templeton, had been a member of the authority since its inception in 1995.

He had previously been a member and vice-chairman of the former South Pembrokeshire District Council, which he served throughout its 22-year existence.
