A DEAD sheep has been found in one of Pembrokeshire County Council's orange recycling bags.
"We were extremely shocked ," said Councillor Brian Hall, council cabinet member with responsibility for environment and transportation.
"This is totally unacceptable. Such actions pose a major hazard to council's recycling workers and to the recycling staff."
Pembrokeshire residents taking part in the orange bag recycling scheme are being urged to think twice about what they are recycling.
Although the response from householders involved in the scheme has been extremely good, a small minority appear to be misusing it.
Councillor Hall said the amount of good quality recyclables the council was collecting was amazing and the efforts of residents was helping make waste collection in Pembrokeshire more sustainable.
"However, we will also be closely monitoring the situation and the collection of orange bags to try and eliminate this type of abuse," he said.
The council is urging people not to use orange bags for general waste such as food, nappies, tissues etc. Other materials such as polystyrene, textiles and glass should also not be included, while glass should be taken to the nearest recycling point.
