Unemployment still falling

For the fourth month in a row, the number of people in Pembrokeshire claiming unemployment benefit was over 400 lower than in the previous year, as unemployment in the county falls faster than anywhere else in Wales.

Traditionally Pembrokeshire has had one of the highest rates of unemployment in Wales, but with 1,812 people out of work in March, the jobless rate in the county is now 2.7%. The Welsh average is 2.4%.

New and expanding businesses are creating jobs in the county and this is enabling residents to find work and former residents to return to the county.

This trend is expected to continue and the Jobs Fair in Milford Haven at the weekend promoted the growing number of job opportunities in retail, health, education, care, tourism and construction.
