Accidental death in horror car crash

A VERDICT of accidental death was returned for a fatal car crash in November.

Glyn John Ashley died almost instantaeously as a result of multiple injuries. He was travelling from his home at Melrose Cottage, Rosemarket, Milford Haven, to work in Fishguard on November 3rd last year.

Just south of the Treffgarne bends on the A40, the BMW in front of him braked violently to avoid colliding with a blue Rover overtaking from the opposite direction.

The BMW stopped almost immediately and the Rover was able to pull back onto its correct side.

Witnesses told the coroner Mr Astley's older model Ford Fiesta spun onto the other side of the road and collided with the Rover.

Whether the 41-year-old swerved to avoid the BMW or skidded when trying to stop quickly is unknown.

The impact was so great, his car was thrown 20 metres backwards. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No mechanical defects or medical conditions were found.
