Quest to identify unmarked graves

DEAR EDITOR, - I wonder if your readers may be able to help me in my quest.

Back in the 1980s I returned to Pembrokeshire with my father's Scout troop from Greenwich, south-east London, for their summer camp.

As a local project, we were tasked to clear the graveyard to the Miners' Chapel, Burnett's Hill, Martletwy, that was in an unkempt state, with bracken, ivy and unwanted materials all over the graves.

From this time on the chapel has been a fascinating place to me. I was lucky enough to be in the area when the chapel was re-opened in 2001, but only at the beginning of May did I look upon the graveyard in a different light.

I decided to try and record the graves there. However, I hit a brick wall.

The marked graves are easy, but I would like to find any records that relate to those people interred in the graveyard in the unmarked graves that I stumbled across.

I have contacted the Pembrokeshire Record Office in Haverfordwest, but they inform me that there were no records available for this chapel unless they are in local hands.

I was also informed that there are no records at the Welsh National Records Office. I have spoken to friends who are on the chapel committee and they cannot help me any further.

I am therefore wondering if any of your readers may be able to help me track those people buried in the unmarked graves in the chapel graveyard.
