Uri Geller offers support to mast campaigners

World-famous psychic Uri Geller (pictured) has offered his support to campaigners battling for the removal of a Tetra mast from Haverfordwest Police Station.

The star was contacted by Jane Packard, mother of 12-year-old Nicola, who attends Portfield School - one of nine schools in close proximity of the police station.

Mrs Packard has kept her daughter home from school after the Tetra mast system was switched on temporarily, and has called on the county council's education department to provide home tuition for Nicola.

"On Friday, May 13th, Nicola had a really bad day. I had no idea until afterwards that the mast at the police station was switched on that day," said Jane.

"Nicola had problems when we lived in Yorke Street, Milford Haven. After a mast was put on top of the nearby fire station, her fits increased."

Mrs Packard spoke to Uri Geller after learning that he had already stepped in to support campaigners trying to stop a mobile phone mast from being built near three Harrogate schools.

The star pledged his support for the Haverfordwest campaign.

He told the Western Telegraph at the weekend that he was very much against any telephone mast or pylon being close to residential areas or schools.

"They are deadly for people living under them or near them, especially children, who have so much thinner skulls than grown-ups," he said.

"It's a travesty and should be outlawed. I will do anything, in whatever small capacity I can, to assist anyone who needs help over this issue."

A spokesman for 02 Airwaves, Mr Peter Sitch, confirmed that MM02 would be appealing against Pembrokeshire County Council's planning refusal for the proposed tetra mast at Uzmaston.
