Campaign wins step forward

DEAR EDITOR, - As somebody with personal experience, I would like to share this good news.

Breakthrough Breast Cancer has been campaigning through its Left in the Dark campaign since October 2003 for all women to see a specialist within two weeks of being referred by their GP.

Last month, the Breakthrough Breast Cancer convention took place. At the convention was Dr John Reid, Secretary of State for Health, who listened to women with personal experience of breast cancer talk about how devastating waiting for diagnosis can be.

Congratulations to all members who attended the meeting and lobbied the Secretary of State so convincingly. As a result, the Government has made a commitment to ensure all women with breast problems will see a specialist within two weeks of referral by their GP.

Breakthrough has worked hard to communicate to all politicians. This is a great step forward.
