Time for consultation on Martello Quays project

DEAR EDITOR, - We, the members of the Pembroke Dock Civic Society, were surprised to read your latest report about the proposed Martello Quays development that has been suggested for the town, when various other organisations, including our own, have not been included in further consultation.

We understand that the proposal, as it exists, is at the pre-planning stage and that the development will have to go through the whole gamut of a planning application. But where is the consultation?

By whose authority have the architects drawn up these plans? Why has there been no attempt at more consultation with the people resident in the area, or are we once again being told that the cabinet at County Hall knows what is best for the town?

There seems to be some conflicting information circulating about this proposed development and the funding of the project.

Is it true that the proposal is that the premises on the Martello Quays development will be five storeys high and that to obtain a berth in the marina then boat owners will have to buy a house on the development?

If this is so, then the development will blight the views of the waterway for everyone living in the original town, without bringing any benefits to the residents.

Also, will there be any of the proposed housing be made available for the residents of the town?

We would like to urge anyone who is in any way connected with this proposed project to make their plans patently obvious, transparent and available for discussion before this project goes any further. By this, we mean plans as in thinking and draft designs, not plans - as in draft planning application.

Yes, we support anything that will enhance and develop the town, so include us in consultation so that inappropriate plans can be modified along the way.
