Cleddau FM goes live

RADIO listeners in Pembroke, Pembroke Dock and Neyland, can now tune in to their own community radio station, 87.9 Cleddau FM, which went live on Monday.

Broadcasting from the Cleddau Bridge Hotel, the chairman of the station, Phil Thompson, announced the launch on air at 8am.

Cleddau FM, the county's first community station, will run for a trial period of 28 days to July 18th, before applying for a permanent licence.

Marc Tierney, programme co-ordinator said: "The first day of a new challenge like this is very exciting.

"The station is for the community and will air what they want to hear. We aim to promote social inclusion and economic regeneration."

The station, manned by volunteers, will feature in-depth sports coverage, Welsh language programmes and news bulletins delivered by Western Telegraph reporters.

It will also be broadcasting specialist and religious programmes to the 20,000 potential listeners, who live within the 5km-radius coverage area.

Mayor of Pembroke Dock, Ron Watts, was the first to be interviewed on Cleddau FM.

He told the Western Telegraph: "If people plug into Cleddau FM it will be good for promoting local events and bringing the towns of Pembroke Dock, Pembroke and Neyland closer together."
