THE local branch of the Jubilee Sailing Trust has declared its first ever all-Pembrokeshire voyage a huge success, following the recent return of the crew.
Thirty-eight people from across the county took part in the challenging voyage aboard Tenacious, which left Milford Haven bound for Southampton on a week-long journey, taking in the sights of Dartmouth and Alderney en route.
The original plan of calling in at ports along the Irish and French coasts was revised due to weather conditions.
As one of two specially-designed tall ships operated by the Jubilee Sailing Trust, Tenacious lived up to all expectations, allowing physically disabled members of the crew to actively participate in sailing the ship.
Sue Mansell, of Cresselly, is a wheelchair user who was sailing with the Trust for the first time. Describing it as 'a life changing experience', Sue said: "I have found a renewed confidence, but, above all, a new and exciting interest that I want to continue to enjoy." With many of the crew members having been sponsored by third parties, local branch chairman Jenny Brown has extended her appreciation of the support received from local companies, charities and professional organisations.
A reunion of the voyage crew, along with sponsors and supporters, is planned for the beginning of September. Anyone wishing to find out more about the work of the Trust, and talk to those who have recently taken part in a voyage, is welcome to attend the event. Call Jenny Brown on 01646 600055 for details.
