It's County Show time!

The County Show is upon us again will lots of attractions to satisfy the many visitors to our county.

The show is filled with new and traditional events.

This year the main attraction is The Kangaroo Kidd. Mathew Coulter is his real name and he is six-foot four-inches tall and will be performing in the Grand Ring at 4.45pm on Tuesday, 4.15pm on Wednesday and 5.30pm on Thursday.

The Countryside Conservation Area is always popular with visitors and just having erected two new Douglas Firs from Llandeilo, must make the going easier, although they will be taller at 110-feet.

Traditional exhibitors will be displayed in the area, but for me the RSPB trailer with its mini cinema, where you can Fly with The Owls, is something for all big kids.

Locals and visitors can enjoy a newly sited food hall, situated across the other side of Band Avenue on the corner with Main Avenue, with new and traditional foods, including organics, bakery products and Welsh whiskey.

Pembrokeshire County Council's food promotions team is also on display with food demonstrations.

With The Welsh rugby team winning the Grand Slam this year, I have invited members of that team to appear at the show. The programme for the team members hasn't been finalised yet, but players from Llanelli rugby team will be appearing with Pembrokeshire College Rugby Academy to demonstrate their skills on Tuesday at 3pm.

The newly created 7th Avenue joins 6th and 8th Avenues, where you will find The Pembrokeshire Growers Association selling a variety of plants, shrubs and trees.

There is over 5,000 square-feet of trade stand space supported by a shopping mall and a mixture of trade stands.

Entries this year are as good as ever with 400 cattle, 680 sheep, 40 pigs and 1,164 horses entered, with the breed display and goats supporting as usual.

The public will have an excellent opportunity to get to see the animals and find out more about how they are handled and their life cycle from the many stewards who look after them.

Entertainment and show information will be supplied by the Western Telegraph, Radio Pembrokeshire, Radio Wales and S4C, who will be located for the first time in zone C.

Our sponsors of the County Show must not be left out without mention, they not only support the show financially, but also ensure that the special equipment and skills are offered to the society to ensure that the staging of the show meets the standard required.

The sponsors' Thank You Evening will be held on Wednesday, at 6.30pm, in the presidents' reception area of the main marquee.

May I take this opportunity to thank my staff who have worked tirelessly and enjoyably to stage what is one of Wales' finest agricultural shows. Gaynor Hamer and Anne Evans, my show organisers, have done an excellent job pulling things together and Myfanwy Chapman who keeps all financial matters under control.

Finally to all the visitors. You will find lots to see and enjoy at our County Show from horticulture and craft, poultry and cage birds and various other animals, to over 600 trade stands, some connected with agriculture and others offering the highest quality in craftsmanship.
