Chandler leads charge

County cricket Division One Cresselly (102 for 3) beat Neyland (98 all out)

Adam Chandler rasped six big sixes and seven fours in his unbeaten 66 as he helped Cresselly gain a seven wicket success, after early shocks in pursuit of Neyland's less-than-convincing 98 all out.

His innings was all the more meritorious because Cresselly looked a little shaky themselves at 15 for 3, after John Jones had shifted Andrew Harries and Damian Arthur, with Ian Charles bowling Neilson Cole at the other end.

But then skipper Lyn Richards shared an unbroken stand of 87 with Chandler as he sensibly gave his younger partner the strike where possible to finish unbeaten on 21.

Richards again played a full part in Cresselly's performance as he claimed 2 for 20 from ten overs alongside Steffan Jenkins (1 for 38) and Richard Harris (2 for 21) before the off-spin of Ryan Lewis caused sheer panic among the Neyland batsmen after John Jones (17) and Greg Miller (24) had taken them to a respectable 61 for 2 midway through their overs.

Lewis finished with figures of 5 for 15 in nine overs and only Jay Dunsford (12) managed double figures thereafter as Neyland slumped to 98 all out in 38 overs.

Then came those few early shocks as Cresselly stumbled, but Chandler steadied things down before launching his counter-offensive in conjunction with his skipper - and Cresselly earned 28 points as they reached their target in only 22 overs.
