Girls reign supreme

Milford Netball Club enjoyed it's best ever season in 2004-2005.

The girls registered two teams of varying ages and ability in the league, with wonderful results.

Not only did they take the Dyfed League title for the eighth successive season but they also secured the runners-up spot.

There was more success in the Dyfed Knockout Cup with the teams playing each other in the final, giving Milford another clean sweep.

The runners-up success in the Welsh National Clubs Championships in May brought players to the attention of Welsh selectors.

Rhiannon Ace continues to play at the highest level, facing South Africa last November, playing in the European Championships in February and more recently against Jamaica.

Hannah Gover has recently achieved her ambition of a Welsh squad place, gaining a Tier Three place after trials in July.

And 16-year-olds Nicole George and Laura Jones have both been selected to attend National Development Centres.

Next season, Milford Netball Club intends to concentrate on the development of coaches and umpires, as a new junior section of the club is to begin in September.

There will be a starting out coaching course on Sunday, September 11th, from 10am to 2pm, and a Level One course on Sunday, September 25th, from 10am to 4pm, both to be held at Haverfordwest Dome.

Senior Club training sessions start on Tuesday, September 6th, from 7pm to 8.30pm.

Junior sessions from Wednesday, September 7th, six to 11-year-olds from 5pm to 6pm and 11 to 14-year-olds from 6pm to 7pm. All sessions will take place at Haverfordwest Dome.

A netball day will be held at the Dome on Wednesday, August 17th, for any child between the ages of six and 14.

The day will consist of coaching tips, agility games, and dependant on numbers either a netball match or tournament.

Milford Netball Club welcomes all new members, experienced or otherwise, so come along and take part.
