Burton banished

County cricket Division One Burton (132 all out) lost to St Ishmaels (148 all out)

St Ishmaels' 16-run victory at Oatfield Park took them up to fourth in the table and finally condemned Burton to relegation.

Tish's success owed much to the all-round displays by brothers Andrew and Steve Williams.

The dynamic duo scored 31 and 26 respectively before Andrew grabbed four wickets from his pace stuff and Steve claimed a wicket brace with his off-spin.

Skipper Peter Bradshaw (22) and talented youngster Philip Cockburn (19) also contributed an opening partnership of 42.

Andrew Palmer (13) and Glyn Griffiths (17) made minor contributions before James Venables caused problems to earn creditable bowling figures of 4 for 14 alongside skipper John Griffiths (3 for 23) and Johnnie Scale (2 for 36).

Burton battled back well to restrict Tish to 148 all out after they had looked comfortable on 121 for 4.

Andrew Williams then struck early for Tish as he bowled Mike and John Venables for two runs apiece, with Daniel Flynn shifting Richard Scriven to reduce Burton to 21 for 3.

Richard Hayman (31) and Steve Jones (37) redressed the balance in a stand of 45 and there was support from Gareth Bevan (19) and James Venables (15) before both fell to Steve Williams.

Andrew Palmer also bowled really well to return figures of 3 for 20 and Burton were unable to grab a third victory.

They will now find themselves joining Lamphey back in Division Two next campaign.
