Bigger crowd, more entries and lots of sun at County Show

GLORIOUS weather and an impressive array of animals and agriculture drew the crowds to the year's premiere Pembrokeshire agricultural event.

A light shower on the final day came as a relief to many pink-faced exhibitors after two days of scorching sun had taken its toll.

The number of people who passed through the gates soared from 85,000 last year to around 104,000 - which attested to the interest and support that is generated by the Pembroke- shire County Show.

As the three-day event was drawing to a close, the 2005 Lady Ambassador, Emma James, told the Western Telegraph: "The show has been wonderful and I am sure everyone who is here is having a fantastic time. I thought the standard of the entries was fantastic. It is clear that in many cases months of effort have gone into preparing for this."

While animals basked in the sunshine, visitors filled the walkways, which were lined with stalls and amusements featuring fairground rides, displays and numerous shops.

Other attractions included a bucking bronco, helicopter rides and numerous places to eat and drink.

The president of the show, Breian Llewellyn, who has seen the show develop over the last 50 years, said: "I couldn't pick a highlight from so many good events. The show has been greatly helped by the weather and the hard work of everyone."
