Happy tale of the top dogs

Pembrokeshire Canine Association members had a highly successful time at Crufts, with 21 awards out of the 22,500 international entries.

Top honours went to Christine Smith, from Milford Haven, and Lynda Miles, of Trecwn.

Christine's three-year-old Irish Water Spaniel Fynder Blue Velvet at Leonardston (Lily) won the Bitch CC (Challenge Certificate) and went on to win Best of Breed.

Christine and husband David have had previous successes at the show but not with three-year-old Lily.

Lynda and Derek Miles' labradors won again at Crufts for the third consecutive year.

Llanstinan Lloyd JW won his class. In 2005 he was top winning junior chocolate labrador in the UK, winning 13 first prizes at championship shows.

Llanstinan is one of the UK's top labrador kennels having bred winning dogs currently exhibited on the international circuit in Italy and Iceland.

The Pembrokeshire breeds also fared well with Margaret Neal's Pembroke-shire corgi, Guy, winning a second and Mrs Sylvia Hughes, of Merlins Bridge, with Pembrokeshire corgi Donna gaining a fourth.

Sealyhams bred by Cathy Thomas and Janet Wonnacott won two seconds and three third places.

The Association is holding two companion dog shows in aid of charities, both at Merlins Bridge Community Centre, the first in aid of Milford Haven Animal Welfare on Sunday, July 16th and the second in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind on Sunday, August 6th.

Ringcraft classes continue to be held at 6.45pm on Mondays at St Thomas' Hall, St Thomas' Green, Haverfordwest.
